Description
This course investigates further the presentation model and
the materials used for such models.
Objectives
By the completion of the course, students will demonstrate
proficiency in product model making, sculpting, mould-making, armature
building, casting, prop making, set building, and 3D printing.
Content
Course content will cover the study and use of studio tools
used in the production of paper, Styrofoam, plastic, clay and plaster models.
The tools will include the hotwire cutter, clay modelling tools, scribes, saw,
joggle, tools for shaping or forming plaster model, cast lathe, lathe plane,
scale, Venier callipers, outside callipers, flat pliers or small bender for
bending wires, set of jeweller’s files and the soldering torch (electric). This
course will also introduce students to the four rapid prototyping systems in
use for creating rapid prototyping of parts or models. These are Stereo
Lithography Apparatus (SLA), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Fused Deposition
Modelling (FDM), Laminated Object Manufacturing (LOM).
Mode of Delivery
Lessons will be delivered through lectures, demonstrations,
experimentations and handson practical activities
