This course equips the student with contextual and historical background of the
fashion industry. It emphasizes the scope, major operations and core activities of the
fashion and clothing industry. The student will be able to explain the concept of fashion, explore social, economic and cultural aspects of fashion; explore the key functions and operations of the apparel and fashion industry.
This course enables students to acquire knowledge and skills in adding appropriate colours and patterns to textiles. It addresses the creative and innovative needs of the students and makes it possible for them to understand and effectively create their own designs on textiles
The course aims at equipping students with basic technical knowledge and skills in body measurement taking and drafting of patterns. It also identifies materials, tools and equipment needed for the purpose.
The course equips students with basic knowledge in tools and equipment and basic
sewing techniques in garment construction. It enables students to work in the industry
under healthy conditions and handle different kinds of tools and equipment with
efficiency. It builds confidence for the various courses in garment manufacturing.
This course equips the student with in-depth knowledge of materials, tools,
equipment, products and skills of the textile industry. It emphasizes fibre studies and
the processing of staple fibres into yarn. This course will be implemented through lectures, discussions, practical exercises
and field trips.
This course equips students with the skills and techniques of using lines to represent
objects, ideas, moods and capturing images. It emphasizes freehand drawing and
enables students to observe more critically and to handle different kinds of media
with efficiency. These help to build a more solid foundation for the various courses in
the programme.
This course equips students with knowledge and skills that make them aware of their
own history, customs and traditions (practices and beliefs) as well as those from
various African cultures, as forms of art, which have influence on the Ghanaian
society. Students identify historical backgrounds to fashion/textile designs and their
relevance to current trends. It enables the Ghanaian fashion/textile designer to possess a good understanding of African Societies in order to fully appreciate the
true meaning of the art developed by these various African Societies.
This course seeks to give students a firm foundation in the ability to use effective
communication skills for academic work and to be able to show mastery of the spoken
language as well as the skills needed in the presentation of information. The students will be able to display a good command of the English language (i.e. both oral and written); Gain the mechanical skills needed for writing academic papers; Do academic presentation.
This course introduces students to the large field of Information Communication
Technology (ICT). It emphasizes the general concept of computing, the classifications,
operations and functions of the computer system, while gaining a fair understanding
of the use of Microsoft Office software packages. It equips students with knowledge
and skills in operating the computer as a drawing, designing and presentation tool.
This will also enable students to perform various tasks using a combination of software
programmes such as Word, Photoshop, and PowerPoint.
